There are several cases of graduate students failing to complete their studies due to incomplete final year research projects. This is largely related to the way supervision and tracking of students’ progress is handled. Although of recent, reforms have been introduced in the supervision of these projects at the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology of Makerere University, the researcher observed and studied literature on the workings of the existing student supervision systems, identified loopholes within these systems, and established user and system requirements which guided the design and development of this prototype. The implementation was based on an application and database design, which was then tested for conformity to the objectives of the study. Overall, the study achieved the objective of putting together a research project supervision system that enhances communication and research progress tracking between the students, their supervisors and research office by use of systematic recording, reminders, and proper document management.
